Happy Annuversary

Each wedding anniversary is a special milestone in the couple’s lives.

And then there are those extra special milestones – because they denote completion of “x” special years.

Husband & I were all set to celebrate a landmark anniversary this month.

A Special Anniversary!! So let’s plan something nice…
Our Anniversary falls two days after a national holiday.
Perfectly planned the date those “x” years back.

It falls on a Saturday this year.
Just Perfect.

So the dear husband has to only take the Friday off (read: “the dilemma of a workaholic”… giggle giggle) from work.
Totally Perfect.

And off we can go for a short & sweet “celebration” trip, of course with the little daughter joining in.
Couldn’t be more Perfect J

Quick Check-list:
a)     Destination –
  • Let’s choose a special place close to our house
  • Hubby loves driving, so we can drive down
  • Lot of greenery would be good for the fatigued city lungs

b)     Attractions –
  • It should be a place to simply relax
  • So that the “people/places of interest” seeking, camera-toting wife doesn’t do a disappearing act
  • The food should be good – special occasion = yummy grub & cake of course !!

c)      Budget –
Aahh… a teeny weeny bit splurging is fine – after all a “landmark” anniversary

So, we thought of the perfect place to go to.

d)     Packing –
Not much of a bother, since it would be only a 3 days’ outing.

e)     And the dreaming began…
  • Our FIRST special milestone anniversary
  • Will request the resort staff for a candlelit table – ooohhh… a romantic candlelight dinner with the child ;)
  • Maybe all 3 of us could wear new outfits for the occasion
  • There would be music and hopefully a dance floor – maybe I can request the DJ/ singer to play/perform some of our favourite romantic numbers
Aaahh… Excitement builds up in anticipation of this short relaxing trip.

And the D-day is finally here… Yippppeeeeeeee !!!
Wow!! We are going to celebrate our special Anniversary and how!!

a)     Destination –
  • Special place, close to our house –
  • Drive down –
  • Lot of greenery –
This place is called “The School Garden”

b)     Attractions –
  • Total relaxation -
After the morning frenzy of getting the daughter & ourselves ready.
  • Persons of interest -
Many precious little people actually – it is the School Annual Day.
  • Camera toting wife’s disappearing act - ✘
Note: Photography & videography restricted, so as not to distract the little performers and to prevent various arms & mobile devices from blocking the line of vision of fellow audience members.
  • Food - ✘
But the kid did manage to get a cake from the cake stall.
c)      Budget –
Splurging –
But what we splurged on was a lot of happiness & joy at this colourful event.

d)     Packing –
Truly not much of a bother, since only a 3 days hours outing. So, an extra set of clothes for the performer and the snack box with fruits.

e)     And the reality begins…
  • Daughter’s FIRST annual day – a landmark in itself – and waiting for many more to come.
  • Forego the candlelight, we were in full sunlight – lot of Vitamin D produced today.
  • Dress up we did – in traditional wear, to keep in sync with the theme of celebrating the country’s cultures.
  • Daughter’s delight at dressing up & performing – beyond any delight we could have got at any resort.
  • The cute innocence-laden performances – could any entertainment be more pure? And yes, we grooved too, standing side by side, happiness in our hearts.
  • And through their adorable actions, we re-learnt the various traditions in India.
Now that’s what we call a unique anniversary celebration J

Happy Milestone Anniversary
Each anniversary is denoted by Traditional & Modern symbols.
Our traditional symbol this year signifies flexibility, a prime requirement as we embrace parenthood.

The modern symbol signifies beauty and strength – the day was beautiful indeed and a powerful reminder of the responsibilities we need to undertake as parents.

So Cheers… And Happy Anniversary (or rather Annu-versary) to Us J

Be A Sport

The nip in the air has just about set in. And along with that comes Sports Day… yippee yaayyyy…

Our little girl’s first Sports Day...

It’s been years since daddy-mommy participated in a Sports Day. So when we got the school note, (although I did feel a little antiquated) the excitement started building up.

So how exactly does this Sports Day unfold… Read on...

Child in Me
The school notice reads “send a pair of colourful pom poms” & helps us with the nearby store name too.

Naaah… the excited me thinks, “Let’s make them at home.”

Advantages:
  • The craftswoman in me awakens.
  • I get to reminisce about school days.
  • Semi-spring cleaning done - Cardboard, wrapping papers etc. lying around the house get utilised.
  • The little girl participates in the “creative” process (daddy is required to participate).
  • She shrieks in excitement as her precious pom poms take shape.

Challenges:
  • Daddy has to hold tight to stop her from pouncing on the unfinished “works of art”.
  • Through our sleepy eyes, we have to (note: HAVE TO) watch pom pom dance on repeat mode.
  • Daddy dons this incredulous look as mommy gradually shows equal enthusiasm (time for the devilish laugh here.. hee haw haw).
  • Kiddo refuses to leave pom poms behind in school & tears stream down her cheeks (Much like the streamers flowing from her pom poms.. me dreamily ponders. Oh stop it.. go soothe the bawling child)

Bleed RED
Cricket fanatics in the country sport & support Blue, so why not we team up with the little girl in Red?

This feels like a mini team alright, out to enjoy a day in the sun, in the quaint school garden, under the shade of the lovely trees.

The entire Olympiad atmosphere is infectious.

The Grand Opening
Pom pom dance
  • Lost look on the faces of most kids (including ours).
  • Holding tightly on to their pom pom pairs & shaking them here & there (it rhymes !!).
  • Looking around at their friends and looking out for their parents.
  • Teachers gently guiding them as the music rolls.
  • Each kid dancing in own unique style - the presentation becomes all the more endearing.
Inauguration
  • Balloons – red & white – fly into the crisp morning air amid much cheer.
  • Inaugural speech given by older kids - phenomenal command over the language!!
  • An inspiration for our younger brigade.

And then starts the Saturday carnival
Not only the many parents, but enthusiastic Grandparents are also participating – much to the delight of the little ones.

We three participate in some exciting events – A Snapshot.

Event 1.0 :: Hoop hoop hooray
-          Daddy encourages his little girl to crawl through a Hoop towards the finishing line.
-          She doesn’t want to crawl – instead chooses to run through it each time daddy places the hoop in front of her.
-          And my, is she enjoying or what!!

Event 1.1 :: “I am hungy”
-          Umm... You took part in just one activity, I remind her.
-          “I AM HUNGY” - is definitively declared.
-          Okk… healthy fruits break then.

Event 2 :: Get Set … Wet
-          A complex game here involving 2 buckets, 1 sponge & 2 thrilled participants ;)
-          Mommy dunks a sponge in water in Bucket 1.
-          Little girl runs with it to Bucket 2 & squeezes out the water.
-          Runs back to mommy.
-          Repeat… till water exists in Bucket 1.
-          Cheering Daddy + Encouraging Mommy + Persevering Kiddo = Change of her drenched outfit.

Event 3:: Ouch Potato
-          The trio have to showcase their hopping talent & collect potatoes laid out on the track.
-          Crack.. Ouch.. Are the bones creaking already?? (Antiquated feeling makes a comeback)
-          Event over – little one believes in enjoying fruits .. rather the “vegetables” of labour.
-          Firmly plonks herself next to the bucket where we have gathered the potatoes.
-          Wants to take them home to have mashed potatoes.
-          Lot of coaxing required for guard duty to be relinquished.

And there are many many many more - Cricket in golf mode with daddy as wicket keeper & mommy-daughter duo scoring pretty well, a delighted daughter sifting through the sand to find marbles and… let’s just stop here.

Steeplechase + Treasure Hunt !!
It's Sports Day after all. So let's make mommy participate in steeplechase.
So here I am, sprinting behind her, avoiding the many big and tiny feet, jumping over bench hurdles, nearly colliding with a closing gate – as she keeps escaping from the garden to her class environment.

For she wants to do all her regular school activities too!!

And suddenly she is nowhere to be found. We look here, there, everywhere.

Daddy is on search duty inside the building and finally with help from the ladies at school, finds our little treasure sitting in a shelf – her treasure chest of activities.

Our hearts did skip a few beats when she could not be located; but what is heart-warming is how she has taken to the school & started relishing the activities.

Winner Takes it All
And we reach the home stretch with a thank you note.. yet again, from the older kids.

Each child is a winner today, each parent is a winner today.

Each child has received a cup. But more importantly they got their parents’ time, they got a lot of fun, they got a lot of sun.

And the parents got to relive their childhood – and to gently initiate their little wards into the fun of Sports.

Cheers !!
We, the happy parents, were grinning away when she received her first ever “cup”.

She was tad unimpressed - “There are no chocolates inside the cup !!”.
Hmmm, respected school authorities, please do take note, for next year.

And then she just raises the cup & pretends to sip from it…

CHEERS indeed – to a day well spent, to some awesome memories, and to more such events in the future.

Palaces & Zoo, And the Flag too

15th Aug ‘16

Dear Mommy & Daddy,

Rushing to school, playing, learning, socialising, coming up with cute antics, being naughty, being a sweetheart again – Tough job I got there!!

So thank you for bringing me for this short Independence break.
Really needed this work-life balance.

On this road trip, hope you both are gaining some experiences that should make our next outing – where I would get the opportunity to dispense more lessons to you - even better.

Some Experiences... some Expectations... some Questions here::

1)     Am a toddler.
Will sleep for a while (awww so cutely) when the car is lulling me.
But once am awake, have to live up to the expectations in our “2 Years Tots” closed group.
When I can very well run around, why should I sit in the confined spaces of a 4-wheeler?!

2)    Ok mommy, so you took efforts to pack healthy home food for me.
But darling, when I have “restaurant chicken” in front of me, smelling so heavenly and looking so completely un-healthy & yummm… why should I have that non-unhealthy home food?
Don’t I anyways have it every other day?

3)    I haven’t understood - why should I keep grinning at myself on the phone screen?
Oh, you call it a selfie.
Guys, could you please excuse me from this self-obsessed routine?

The Princess Diaries

4)    The Palace hotel is MINE!!
Wipe off that amused look - you are the ones responsible for fostering this belief coz you (esp. Daddy) are often referring to me as your “Princess”.
I own this place, so am gonna run around at full speed even if you feel that might cause me to trip/ slip and fall.

5)    Yes, that awesome carrot cake has been sent for me by the Queen.
No – none of your other explanations will work.
Yes - I can devour all of it without sharing with you.

6)    Wowieeee….. That other huge palace looks beautiful.
Could we go in and check it out too? No?
Just coz there’s such a crowd that won’t let us reach the ticket counter!!
But then the Queen has called for me – have to meet her!!
No?
Ok… tantrum time then.

My Zootopia

7)    Ummm… Can either of you guys take up the job of zoo manager / zoo organizer?
Most of the animals that I recognise have been placed towards the end of the long long stretch. Am I not supposed to doze off by then?!
Reminder – Am a toddler.

8)    Please do explain, why did you show me innumerable birds & monkeys in the beginning?
I know birdie, I know monkey. Period.
I don’t need to know all the species right away!!
So next time, may we start zoology from the reverse direction?

9)    I love the swinging big black monkey though.
Her parents are so not strict.
If only you allow a big tree in our living room, I could do the same!!

10)  That leopard pacing around – he’s looking at me & grinning.
May we take him home as my pet?

11)  Why is the lion just sitting there – mostly with his eyes shut?
Isn’t he supposed to growl, at least once, to impress me? What a lazy bum!

12)  And if the tiger can go swimming, why aren’t you allowing me??!!
Nope – your trite explanation of my swimming costume not being there doesn’t work.
Tiger is not wearing one either!! (angry Me)

Little Princess wants to play

13)  I do appreciate that you are taking me for a stroll in the rains.
But seriously, I would love to get drenched up in the hills rather than having you holding an antiquated umbrella over me.
And hello, whatever happened to jumping in muddy puddles, like Peppa??!!

14) Whoa!! What’s this? Truckloads of sand…. Rush…. Run…. Sand parrrrttttyyyy!!
What?! Am not supposed to be playing with the sand here?
Just coz it’s some “mouse”um and someone has made those pretty sand forms!!
How about I ravage some and then make my own forms? No?
Life is unfair!!

15)  So to make up for this, you want me to go for a horse carriage ride?
But I don’t want to.
I can’t hurt the poor horsey!

16)  I prefer dancing in the garden, below the pretty flower arches.
This is wonderful.
Yeah, let me relish my time here.

17)  And I love climbing up these marble stairs… and running down the long corridors… and that huge verandah.
And saying Hi to the colourful fishies in the tank.
Oh this one surely feels like my own Palace too. (Don’t exchange those looks)
I so feel that I belong here.

The Patriots… & the Brave Princess

18)  So you think you can pay homage to the relics at the Railway Museum by enticing me with a toy train ride? Well, you didn’t bargain for me snoozing again did u?
Dudes …. Enjoy the 2 laps of the ride. Am giving you a chance to relive your dating years.
Oh u say that’s not easy when you are busy protecting my ears from the blaring toy train horn!! Well, your call!!

19)  I love the flag hoisting ceremony.
I know India flag. Orange-White-Green.
I love to salute.
But why can’t they sing Jana Gana Mana twice??!!

20)  So I have a cut/ bump that has got you worried.
Do you realize that’s my secret ploy to wrench that pink lollipop that you had hidden from me?
Come on folks, me on a picnic.

It has been such a Fun-tastic trip. When are we going for the next one?

Love,
Your Princess” ;)
